Ambassador to Angola Zhang Bin and Entourage Visit Our Fertilizer Plant Project

On July 30, 2024 (local time), Chinese Ambassador to Angola Zhang Bin and his entourage visited the Namibe Fertilizer Plant Project of our company. Li Huijie, Director of the Namibe Fertilizer Plant from the group company's Seventh Business Division, accompanied the delegation.

Li warmly welcomed Zhang's visit and expressed gratitude for the ongoing concern and support from him and leaders at all levels of the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in the Republic of Angola. Li stated that in response to the national Belt and Road Initiative, China Hyway Group Limited initiated the Namibe Fertilizer Plant project under Angola Wulongbi Comprehensive Agriculture Co., Ltd. in 2023 per Angola's policies. Fertilizer, often referred to as the "food of food", has become a critical factor constraining Angola's food security and agricultural development strategies amidst severe food shortages in the country. The fertilizer plant project will contribute to increasing food production and income in Angola. In the future, it will be scaled up and its capacity expanded at the appropriate time, continuously and effectively promoting economic and social development in the country. Li Huijie briefed on the basic conditions of the fertilizer plant, including land use, procedures, the planning for phases one and two, personnel, process, technology, engineering progress, equipment, environmental protection, and job creation.

Li also introduced the details of the group company-planned dedicated rail line connected to the Moçâmedes Railway and arriving within the base through grade crossing and bifurcation. Once the dedicated rail line is completed, the materials at the base will achieve seamless connectivity with the Moçâmedes Railway, with the efficient transportation and influence of the Namibe Logistics Base enhanced and expanded, thereby promoting win-win economic cooperation between China and Angola.

Zhang Bin expressed his regards to the construction personnel on site. Zhang recalled that he had visited Namibe more than a decade ago when the Moçâmedes Railway, undertaken by China Hyway, was still under construction. He noted that significant progress had been made in areas such as construction production and operational management since then. Zhang also stated that the fertilizer industry differs from the engineering sector in terms of its continuity. Fertilizers are products that are needed every year and are crucial for Angola's agricultural development and food security strategy. Additionally, Zhang inquired in detail about water and electricity usage, labor usage, sources of raw materials, process, technology, fertilizers, soil, transportation ports, and market potential of the fertilizer plant, while earnestly emphasizing the importance of on-site construction safety and the safety of personnel in Angola. The embassy is willing to provide strong support for the group company's fertilizer project development, expansion of the agriculture sector, and agricultural modernization efforts.
